Choosing the right mesh out of a plethora of options available in the market can be a daunting task. Whether you’re remodeling your windows and doors or repairing the existing ones, the decision of choosing the right mesh can make all the difference.

Making the right mesh choice

The good news is that your quest for the perfect mesh is already in the right direction as you are facing this challenge. Here is a helpful checklist to help you in making decisions.

  • How important are aesthetics and outdoor views to you?
  • What worries do you have about safety?
  • Which mesh size do you require?
  • Where are you located?
  • What kind of bugs and insects do you have in your area?
  • What kind, level of quality, and shade of mesh material do you require?

The looks and ventilation
When installing screen doors, bear in mind this process can also significantly improve the outside view. Choosing a mesh that is as unobtrusive as possible is typically the top goal.

The ventilation factor is another critical one to be considered. If conventional screen doors are not standing up to your aesthetic requirements, Retractable Screen Doors (RSDs) can be a great alternative. RSDs are rapidly gaining popularity, and their growth is directly tied to the rise in the number of energy-efficient homes that are coming up where natural ventilation is a key requirement.

Airflow
The most important element that people look for in a screen mesh is airflow. You won’t get the same amount of airflow from a screen made of fibreglass or aluminium as you would from one with a tighter weave, such as a solar or insect screen.

Sync with house

The colour and type of your screen mesh must match or be in sync with the colour of your home or place of business, as well as the sort of window frame you have. Look at your home from a visitor’s point of view and opt for the designs and hues based on your personal style and home requirements. Don’t go for something too vibrant or too sober just because they’re in style.

Privacy

Solar screen mesh is the right choice if you wish to leave your windows open during the day but need complete seclusion. Another cheaper alternative for this purpose could be a charcoal fibreglass screen.

Insect and bug protection
Because of its tight weave, insect screen mesh, also known as mosquito screen, offers the best bug protection by keeping out insects as small as gnats while maintaining constant airflow.

Materials

The preferred industry standard for screen doors (and windows) is vinyl-coated fibreglass mesh. It is inexpensive, dependable, and simple to install. Don’t worry much about the colors as charcoal and grey will look great on any setup. Aluminium is another popular material choice.  Aluminium wire, which comes in charcoal, black, and silver, is marginally more resilient than fibreglass mesh. Other than that, there aren’t any significant differences between the two.

Pet friendly

Pet screens allow for the passage of fresh air while resisting most dog or cat clawing and scratching. It almost has the feel of solid plastic and is extremely strong in nature.  When you do have a pet that likes to stay close to or on your window frame, pet screens are the best choice for you. Despite being one of the most expensive screen meshes, you won’t be dissatisfied with its functionality and robust durability.
